Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting at Musée du Louvre, Paris

The very best of Dutch painting in the Louvre.

The concept of this show is that Vermeer was not a solitary genius, isolated from his contemporaneous artists.
This exhibition presents some Vermeer’s masterpieces and of his contemporaries: Gerrit Dou, Gerard ter Borch, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hooch, Gabriel Metsu, Caspar Netscher, and Frans van Mieris.

The aim of these painters was to represent the everyday life of their time and this exhibition show the similarities and differences between them.
